In a survey of 'The 50 Greatest Crime Writers' in >The Times, Patricia Highsmith came top Carol was chosen by Val McDermid as part of the recent Radio 4 'Neglected Classics' series First published pseudonymously in 1952 (because of its controversial gay storyline) as The Price of Salt, Carol sold nearly one million copies in the US Rejacketed to coincide with Pride London, which runs from 18th June to 4th July

Patricia Highsmith is the author of classics such as Strangers on a Train and The Talented Mr Ripley. Born in Texas, she spent much of her life in England, France and Switzerland. She died in 1995 in Locarno, Switzerland.
