From Library Journal

Since one in three women will eventually be diagnosed with cancer, this anthology of writings by women who have had to deal with this devastating illness takes a political approach to what was once primarily a health issue and aims to rouse readers to take some action against the government, the medical establishment, and the industrial polluters. Most of the personal accounts reflect the fact that the cancers in these women's lives were caused not by unhealthy living but by such environmental factors as where they lived. Unlike most books about cancer, which emphasize prevention, this collection focuses on the root causes of cancer and steers away from the attitude of "blaming the victim." The book concludes with a list of resources available to women with cancer. Recommended for public libraries and collections on women, health, and the environment.
