ed. by Gideonse & Williams
Ingrid is a botanist, fiercely independent and travelling alone as she collects botanical specimens. She's also trying to out-run a broken heart after her lover, Helena, was forced to marry.
Ingrid puts her own troubles aside on meeting Ellyn, a young woman living in stark isolation, and driven close to madness by the death of her baby daughter. Ellyn's husband is away indefinitely and she's had no word from him, while the small community has turned its back on her because of her 'unseemly' grieving.
Haylock's final novel.
A convivial host with a great gift for friendship (Duncan Grant, Francis King, Robin Maugham, Yukio Mishi-ma), John Haylock was a survivor from a generation of well-off gay men who made their lives abroad because when they were young Britain was inhospitable and when they were old it was incomprehensible. – from Peter Burton's Obituary of John Haylock died 1/7/06
Soap-opera obsessions. Elaborate fantasy lives. Suburban isolation. Being called “fag.” These are standard-issue elements of growing up queer for some gay men—especially for the 21 contributors of From Boys to Men: Gay Men Write About Growing Up, which charts the familiar terrain with fresh texture. – Time Out Magazine article

One evening, two big events – January 25th 6pm & 7:30pm

Omar & Enzo in the Big Talking Book – Launch
a novel by Colin Batrouney, launched by Christos Tsiolkas
Colin Batrouney's Omar and Enzo in the Big Talking Book is a compelling story. Multilayered and confronting, it deals with repression, violence and transformation. Colin is a writer, visual artist with solo and group shows, actor and director. Omar and Enzo in the Big Talking Book supported by the Australia Council and published by Thompson Walker, is his first novel.
Hares and Hyenas is proud to be hosting this event. Not only was Colin the creator of our original logo but Screaming Hyena published an extract of the novel in one of its issues.

Kiss Me Again DVD
edited by William Tyler Smith
  Iron Girl
by Ellen Hart
  Heaven to Hell
by David LaChapelle
  Allure
by Robert W Richards
A married couple decides to test the boundaries of their relationship with a seductive Spanish woman. When an unlikely relationship ensues, all three are forced to rethink their definition of love. – IMBD
The movie is a honesty and ingenious portrait of a young love – lovely from start to finish – says Monstar-x from Germany
Yes I know that #14 (Night Vision) has been released but we all know that (most of) you prefer to wait for the paperback. Iron Girl was released in mid 2006 but we have only just received copies.
[A] shrewd and consistently entertaining whodunit... Hart delivers vivid, off-the-beaten-track characters and enough clues and layers of intrigue to keep the pages turning. – Publishers Weekly
What’s impressive about this volume, which has nearly twice the images of either of the last two, is its demonstration of LaChapelle’s actually quite formidable range. Just when you think you’ve seen one too many balloon-breasted, slick-skinned automatons spewing evocative substances around the room, he throws in a bevy of cellulite-dimpled middle-aged men, or a startlingly bland photo of Hillary Clinton. ... is garish and gorgeous, shameless and eloquent, repulsive and mesmerizing — but never very far off the mark. – LA Weekly Allure is a very good title for a book of drawings by Robert W. Richards because he truly understands the meaning of the word, he knows what makes a man look desireable and sexed-up, how to express lust and longing and he possesses an uncanny abliliy to capture a man at tthat exact, near-death, split-second just before the orgasm. – Peter Berlin
but of course he'd say that as he is in the book!
