Cry Salty Tears
by Maureen O'Dowd
|
| Mr Malebranche is a straight-talking Drill Instuctor for today’s gay generation, weaning them off Brittany Spears and bear beauty pageants and licking them into a more manly, more self-reliant shape, ready to re-join the masculine fray. Androphilia is his persuasive, compelling, no-frills Boot Camp. – Mark Simpson |
A cleverly crafted thatat explores issues of hatred, gender and race Told through the eyes of protagonist John Hunt a rancher and horse trainer living in Wyoming, who just happens to be black. He is respected in the community, but keeps to himself. That is until he is morally forced into action by a series of homophobic and racist hate crimes. Tension filled until the climatic end. |
Honest account, from Boy Georges' mother, of the life she lived and shared with her abusive husband Gerry. It's a harrowing read detailing the decades of physical and mental abuse she put up with for the sake of her six children. Ultimately it's an inspirational story from a strong woman who has survived and been able to reclaim her life. |

Men Who Love Men
by William J. Mann
When The Men from the Boys was published in the mid-1990s, it soon became a contemporary gay classic. It was followed up with Where the Boys Are, which continued the lives (and seriously pretzel-shaped loves) of novelist Jeff "Cat" O’Brien, and his true love Lloyd (also known as "Dog").
Now comes the final act in the trilogy. We catch up with Jeff and Lloyd, now in their 40s, successful at their careers and (gulp!) engaged to be married. With things going so very well, where will Mann find any dramatic tension?
But the plot is simply the framework on which to hang the story. Flying free from Henry’s life lessons is an impassioned letter of love to Provincetown as a place where gay men can go simply to be themselves, among others like themselves. Its light and topography are celebrated here in the most glowing of terms. Men Who Love Men will forever exist as a documentation of the fact that there has been a time in America when everyone, regardless of gender and orientation, enjoys a freedom to say his vows to the person of his choice.
Mann has said that he’s reached a place he’s comfortable leaving these characters. From Boston Edge

Mississippi Sissy
by Kevin Sessums
|
| Convincingly written novel about a love triangle involving protagonists Paul, Kent and Maggie. Paul and Kent had a tumultuous affair which ended abruptly a few years ago, a chance meeting sparks their affair once again. Kent has since married Maggie making things complicated. Maggie seduces Paul making the triangle complete. An insightful tale of angst, love and loss. |
This is a historic journey through sapphic eroticism from a period know as "The Golden Age". After the repression of the Victorian era, we found lesbians lustfully writing to, for and about other women. Finally unleashing works that were real and representative of their lives and experiences. The author talks about works from Gertrude Stein, Pierre Louys and many more ....... Fantastic reading. |
A collection of writings from 22 up and coming authors, all of whom I'm sure we'll be hearing from again. It's edited by Michelle Tea and is chock full of original and fresh stories diverse in the telling. Included are graphic novel excerpts, memoir, and fiction, covering topics such as sex, drugs, family, gender, and road trips to name a few. |
Mississippi Sissy is an unforgettable memoir. I think it will strike a strong chord with many, many readers. It’s a far different book than “Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil,” but it cast the same kind of spell over me while I was reading it. This story is about a gay boy who knows he's different trying to figure out the world around him, while his parents are dying and he's just trying to find his place in the world. |
