A coming-of-age novel of a young black vampire with a growing thirst for justice, for rebuilding the community that was destroyed by a hatred she can’t yet fathom, and for resolving the conflicts that generate violence – and for enjoying the sweetly erotic “exchange” (with both women and men) that nourishes and sustains both the vampire and human members of this ancient community. Star People hops over the velvet rope and points its telephoto lens at a cast of stars, hookers, paparazzi and scarier-than-hell PR bitches. If you’re on the A list you can get away with murder, but there’s still one taboo left in Hollywood. If you’re an all-action movie star hero, and you’re gay, then your home is in the closet. End of discussion. – rainbownetwork.com Although Breathing Underwater certainly has its share of dark moments, bitterness and pained sarcasm, it is Vickers’ ability to insert subtle humor into a tale which could easily cross over into a stereotypical lesbian angst novel and lifts the book into the realm of true literature.

Hex

by Gilbert Adair

The novel centers on characters who are gay and straight, black, white and Latino. It tells the story of three generations of an African-American family, including a depiction of the 1960s Black Power period of African American history. Scott describes his book: Hex is a gay Hardy Boys mystery and an adult Harry Potter adventure. And it is a novel of comic book realism; with all the crazy, wonderful things that happen in comic books.

A fun yet complex read revolving around main character, the young, recovering-alcoholic dyke Francesca. In a bid to sort out her life and discover her true sexual identity Francesca, nicknamed Goaty, moves to San Francisco to be near her college professor with whom she has fallen in love. She is forced to work in a chain restaurant, she serves and befriends social misfits, falls in and out of love with multiple women, and lays bare the complexities and intersections of pain and love. Transparent documents the lives of transkids at a school for gay and transgender teens and young adults in Los Angeles. Beam's passionate portrayal is almost visual, it's the incredibly human story of four transkids struggling through rejection by birth parents and facing abusive authority figures on a daily basis and surviving in a society that doesn't want to understand their plight. It's a fantastic book that sheds light on a subject shunned by many in society. Billed as "an entertainment" and it certainly is, it's a fun romp that pays homage to Agatha Christie and the English Murder Mysteries. It is set on Boxing Day, in the 1930s, in an snowed-in manor when the usual happens...... gunshot.... followed by a blood-curdling scream. The victim, a gossip columnist, Raymond Gentry who just happens to have turned up uninvited and insulted almost everyone in the house. Our Agatha in this scenario is murder mystery author Evadne Mount will she save the day, and could she be gay???
